2008 Smoker Craft/Sylvan Spring Walleye Classic

March 29th & 30th Umatilla, Oregon

The Columbia River Walleye Circuit held their first tournament of the year over the weekend.  The Smoker Craft Sylvan Marine Spring Walleye Classic was held on March 29th and 30th out of Umatilla.  One Hundred and Twelve fishermen and women participated.  Fishing was tough.  It seemed as if neither the weather nor the fish wanted to co-operate.  With water temperatures hovering around 42 degrees, the tournament anglers struggled to get the fish to bite.

Saturday Morning started with light winds.  Shortly after blast-off the winds picked up making for a long and rough day of fishing.  On Saturday only Eight teams brought fish to the scales.  Each of those teams only had one fish each.  Forty-eight teams ended the day with nothing more than hopes for a better day on Sunday.  The team of Brian Henton and Scott Piper caught the biggest walleye of the day on Saturday securing them a Big Fish payout of $840.00

Sunday the weather cooperated.  Eighteen fish made their way to the scales.  The team of Kimo Gabriel and Greg Osborne brought two fish to the scales on Sunday.  Both of the fish were huge.  The biggest one weighed in at 11.92 pounds, the heaviest fish of the tournament.  Even with the zero they had on Saturday their total weight of 21.12 pounds was enough to push them in to first place and the $2000 first place bonus that Smoker Craft / Sylvan Marine provided.

In addition to Smoker Craft providing a bonus of $2000, several other businesses donated time, product or money.  Terri Kutrowski of Country Insurance and Financial Services in Kennewick provided a cash prize for the smallest single fish weighed in.  WalleyeOneSpinnerBag.com provided storage bags to several of the winners.  Valley Marine of Spokane provided an onsite repair trailer to help tournament anglers with any unexpected breakdowns.

The next tournament in the CRWC tournament trail will be held on July 12th and 13th in Boardman Oregon.  For more information please contact High Desert Marine at 541-567-8419 or email us at hdm@eotnet.net
